It also includes several new features that game and film enthusiasts will appreciate such as Game and Cinema modes as well as 1080/24p motion picture playback to eliminate "judder" or motion artifacts.
• 1920 × 1200 native resolution
• 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio
• Dual HDMI and PC inputs
Multiple Ports for PC and AV Connectivity The HD2442W comes with dual PC and dual High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) ports to connect not only to PCs, but also the latest HD game consoles and audio-visual (AV) devices such as Blu-ray. Two USB ports on the side of the monitor offer easy connection to peripherals like digital cameras, and MP3 players. Sound from all connected devices can be routed through an external set of speakers or AV devices connected through the HDMI inputs.
3000:1 Dynamic Contrast with ContrastEnhancer EIZOs ContrastEnhancer adjusts in real time the brightness, gain, and gamma for images that are too light or too dark to their ideal levels. With moving images it produces a dynamic contrast ratio of 3000.1, resulting in deep blacks and more lifelike images.
Rich Tonal Reproduction While computer monitors display tones from pure white to pure black in a range of 0 to 255, broadcast media and entertainment equipment display these same tones from 16 to 235. As a result, when computer monitors display video or game content, images often look dull and washed out. The HD2442W, however, displays video signals in the 16 to 235 range so it reproduces these tones exactly as intended.
Smooth Motion Picture Playback The HD2442W comes with 1080/24p display capability so it can play Blu-ray disks and other video formats smoothly without the unwanted motion artifacts or “judder.” This is because motion pictures are usually shot at 24 fps which means that any monitor or TV which cannot support playback at this rate will have to convert frames in a process called “pulldown.” The resulting judder is especially noticeable during slow, steady pans across a scene with transitions between frames appearing jerky or staggered.
Input Lag of just 1/60th of a Second A ”Thru” mode reduces this input lag to approximately one frame or 1/60th of a second with both interlace and progressive scanning. This allows gamers to see the action as it is happening and react immediately rather than responding after a delay of several frames.
Screen Ratio Settings Three screen ratio settings are available for viewing games and motion pictures: Standard, Full Image, and Full Screen. Standard applies an overscan to show 95% of an image Full Image applies an underscan to show the image in its entirety. Full Screen maintains the 16:9 aspect ratio while expanding the image to fill the entire screen so there are no black border stripes at the top and bottom.
Picture-in-Picture Displaying content from a PC on the main screen while showing video input on a sub screen, Picture-in-Picture lets you do two things at once – such as checking email while catching a sports game. The transparency and location of the sub screen can be adjusted through the onscreen display menu.
PC and Video Viewing Modes Several viewing modes are available for both computer and AV sources, allowing you to select the best settings for each. For PCs, there’s a choice of Text, Movie, Picture, sRGB and Custom (user-defined), as well as WindowMovie that displays media player software brighter than the rest of the screen. For audio visual devices, there’s a choice of Standard, Custom, Dynamic, Game as well as a Cinema mode for movies.
Optimized Brightness The BrightRegulator function detects changes in the ambient brightness and signals the backlight to adjust the screen brightness accordingly. This ensures the screen is never too bright or too dark, thereby preventing eye fatigue when playing games or watching videos..
Remote Control, Direct Command Available with a FlexScan monitor for the first time, this new remote offers full control of the OSD menu plus one-touch access to picture-in-picture, screen size, and PC/HDMI input selection. The intuitive design makes it ideal for gaming, film viewing, or any other situation where you may be at a distance from the monitor.
Customer Assurance A five-year limited warranty offers a long service life, and compliance with leading industry standards such as TCO’03 and TÜV Ergonomics ensures a better working environment. The EIZO Eco Products 2006 label indicates this product meets strict internal requirements for design, manufacturing, packaging, and usage, including the introduction of lead-free solder and chrome-free steel plates.
