Instant, color-accurate verification of proofs

The GMG ProofControl o4 quality control system represents another important component in GMG’s solution for remote and networked, standardized digital proofing. GMG ProofControl offers users a range of new options for instant, color-accurate verification of proofs.

Standard and company-specific color bars

The color bar or test chart is a vitally important control tool when checking proofs. GMG ProofControl is compatible with control standards used around the world, such as SWOP, 3DAP, the Fogra Media Wedge, etc. Additionally, company-specific color bars and test charts can also be defined and calibrated to individual requirements.

Instant verification

For many years now, GMG has been providing additional color security measures with its products, such as the GMG Checksum. This enables the profiles used in the production of proofs to be accurately identified. GMG ProofControl o4 takes this one step further. Using GretagMacbeth’s Eye-One spectral photometer (supplied with the product), color strips are measured in seconds and the resulting values compared with the target values stored in the system. An immediate “pass/fail” is provided and, for all proofs that “pass” within defined tolerances, a self-adhesive label is automatically created on the supplied label printer. The label, which shows all of the information and values required for production, is signed or initialed by the user, who attaches it to the corresponding proof. Together with the color bar, the label clearly and comprehensively documents the quality of the respective proof.

Configurable target values and tolerances

Users have the option to define their own target values and tolerances, which can be used as a basis for subsequent proofing. This enables users to specify their own specific quality criteria. The target values for process-standard offset printing – based on ISO Norm 12647-2 – are already registered within GMG ProofControl. All information, including target and actual values as well as reports on the checks made, is stored in an exportable database.

Early recognition of anomalies and errors

GMG ProofControl guarantees secure, seamless and ongoing quality control in line with defined standards. This means that any small anomalies or errors associated with the proof printer or the proof medium can be spotted early on. GMG ProofControl helps service providers avoid the cost and time of unsatisfactory print runs and the embarrassment of customer complaints.

Electronic wizard replaces training time

Thanks to the intuitive GMG ProofControl user interface, users are guided through the checking procedure by a “wizard”. This means that users require virtually no training to work with the GMG ProofControl quality control system. GMG ProofControl enables users to check each proof against industry standards or individual specifications. This type of proofing tool also plays an increasingly important role in networked production and remote proofing operations.
